His main research focuses on Silicon Photonics devices. For almost 22 years Avi worked concurrently in High-Tech industries in France (19901991), then in Israel since 1992, part of which as Senior Engineer and Manager with Intel Corporation (1995-2011), combining both electro-optics (EO) and microelectronics expertise. Back to academy (JCT) in 2011, with the Vision to reinforce the bridge between Academy and Industry, he served as JCT Head of the Physics/EO Eng. Dept. (2014-2018). Today, he leads ALEO (Advanced Laboratory of Electro-Optics), and the Nanotechnology Center activities, and a research team of students (PhD, MSc and BSc). Together they develop series of new nanoscale silicon-based electro-optics coupled devices (light emitting transistors, capacitors, photo/thermo-activated modulators, sensors, waveguides) for Photonics Integrated Circuits (PIC) and industrialization, in collaboration with other teams in US (MIT), Europe (INP, INL, CSIC) and Israel (BIU, HUJI). The main applications of these photonics devices are 1) advanced instrumentation, 2) optical communication in computers, 3) measurements in space conditions, 4) sensing in Smart Autonomous Vehicles (SAV), and 5) Quantum Computing.
