94 Research in Faculty of Life and Health Science Prof. Freda Ganz – Dean The ultimate goal of bio-medical research is to promote human health and prevent illness. Both departments of the Faculty of Life and Health Science, Nursing and Bioinformatics, are dedicated to this goal. Investigations involving multi-disciplinary teams have become the standard for high quality medically related research and are common in our faculty. Nursing is commonly defined as a profession dedicated to caring for human responses to health and illness. Therefore, as a practice discipline, nursing research includes a wide range of research areas in the biological, nursing, medical and social sciences. Our faculty’s research interests reflect this range. Current areas of research include genetic and psychosocial predictors of post-partum depression; disparities in health services and outcomes among different populations within Israel, such as the Ultra-Orthodox or Haredi community; the influence of social structures on health; health and illness among those with disabilities and their families; implementation of nurses’ full scope of practice; coping with illness, especially with the recent Sars-CoV-2 pandemic; the utilization of palliative care in non-oncologic populations and family engagement in patient care. Bioinformatics is a branch of science that combines biology, chemistry, medicine and computer technology to develop innovative solutions for complex medical and biological challenges. Biological investigations included those in the field of molecular biology. Bioinformatic techniques were used in medical research involving a wide range of diseases and medical conditions including infectious diseases, bariatric surgery, psychiatric disease, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, cancer therapy, and invitro fertilization. Others areas of research include health systems utilization, air pollution and dentistry.
